DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: The Nurse Intern provides both direct and indirect patient care within the hospital setting and works under the close supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Intern communicates any changes in a patient’s condition—including symptoms and test results—to the supervising RN as needed. This description outlines the main responsibilities and expectations of the role but does not list every possible duty. The organization may modify job requirements at any time. SUPERVISION: Directly supervised by Registered Nurse Preceptor. Reports to Intern Coordinator. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Under Direct RN Supervision May perform tasks and procedures for which they have received proper instruction through their nursing program. Must be comfortable using computers and various software applications. Conducts accurate patient assessments and interventions, reports significant findings, and responds appropriately. Administers medications and treatments and documents the patient’s response. Updates nursing care plans according to hospital guidelines. Assists with admissions, discharges, and patient transfers.
