Overview The Department of Family Medicine at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is seeking an outstanding Medical Assistant to join the team. This full time position will provide outpatient care for our patients and assist physicians in all clinical areas of practice. Responsibilities: - Triage incoming patients by obtaining vital signs, following standing triage orders, reconcile medication list, reconcile allergies, make sure immunizations are up to date and prepare patient for the visit. - Assist physicians with examinations, minor surgeries, diagnostic procedures and treatments. Provide basic patient care and education as directed by provider and standing orders. - Completes delegated tasks from the current and prior day i.e.: patient messages, prescription refills, lab results, referrals, home health agency requests, medication prior authorizations, patient forms, and physician follow-up. All tasks must be reviewed, addressed, and marked appropriately before the close of each business day. - Coordinates services with specialists i.e.: radiation oncology, pulmonology, endocrinology, nutritional counseling, or social services consultation.
