Job description

J: JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE: Fire Protection, which resides in the Central Programs Engineering Department, is responsible for maintaining fire protection design control and providing technical support to the plant in the area of fire protection. Design integrity of the Fire Protection program is maintained through effective configuration control of design output documents (i.e., specifications, calculations, drawings, test requirements and procedures). Performs NFPA 805 monitoring and advocacy for program improvement. Maintains and develops Long Range Planning for Fire Protection System improvements JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: - Maintain the Fire Protection Design Basis at the site. - Ensure the three Fire Protection defense in depth echelons are maintained; 1) to prevent fires from starting (combustible/hotwork controls), 2) rapidly detect, control and extinguish fires that do occur thereby limiting damage (fire detection systems, automatic fire suppression, manual fire suppression, pre-fire plans), and 3) provide adequate level of fire protection for systems and structures so that a fire will not prevent essential safety functions from being performed (fire barriers, fire rated cabl...
