Job Summary: Collects specimens from patients and assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of patients, following established standards and practices. Accessions samples into computer system for accurate testing and billing. Performs Point of Care testing as needed. Accountabilities: Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive. Minimum Education High School diploma or equivalent - Vocational/specialized training of 3-12 months preferred - Uses correct technique, policy, and protocol in collection and process of all specimens. Verifies ID of patient, specimen and results. Properly aliquots specimens. Properly labels specimens with appropriate information. Uses correct alternate patient ID procedures if hospital armband is not available (RN ID, use of Typenex bracelets, etc.). 15% - Performs quick registration in HIS, accessioning, and medical necessity checking using appropriate procedures with accuracy.
