Department Overview The laboratory of Brian Scottoline at the Pape Family Pediatric Research Institute, is locaed in the Department of Pediatrics. In conjunction with the adjacent and collaborating laboratory of Sarah Andres we investigate the roles of human milk beyond nutrition, specifically, the impacts of human milk on intestinal epithelial cell biology, and the mechanisms of those interactions. We are particularly interested in how human milk reduces the risk for the devastating neonatal intestinal inflammatory disease, necrotizing enterocolitis. We are at the forefront of human milk research, using rare patient digrsted milk samples and, patient-derived intestinal organoids to investigate these questions. Function/Duties of Position: We are looking for a dynamic, organized, self-starter with a PhD or Masters degree with experience to help us make new discoveries. A strong candidate with a BS degree in Biology or Chemsitry with extensive researchexperience may also be considered.
