Job Description Under supervision, operates, maintains, and makes such minor repairs as are necessary to ensure continued operation of cranes, gantries, shovels, draglines, and like equipment, using motive power except steam for the Staten Island Ferry; performs related work. May perform work upon floating barges or derricks. EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL TASKS: Operates and is responsible for the operation of all types of assigned equipment, except those powered by steam, in a safe and efficient manner. Operates a wide variety of such machinery on an ongoing basis. Inspects, checks, and tests components of assigned equipment using any motive power except steam, prior to operation. Prepares assigned equipment, except those powered by steam, for New York City Department of Buildings inspection and demonstrates and operates equipment during such inspection. Checks on the proper warm-up equipment prior to operation. Makes such adjustments as are necessary for the proper operation of assigned equipment.
