Job Overview: Job Summary: Medical Technologists in the Microbiology Laboratory at Deaconess Hospital participate in complex testing in the areas of bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, virology, parasitology, urinalysis, body fluid analysis, and serology. Technologists cultivate, isolate, and identify pathogens, perform chemical and physical evaluation of fluids including sterile body fluids and urine, assist in the evaluation and implementation of new methodologies, and perform quality control, routine maintenance, and other duties as assigned. Additional job responsibilities and qualifications: Technologists are expected to perform and interpret tests accurately and efficiently, record and communicate results appropriately, and follow established policies and procedures. Qualified applicants should have critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and possess the ability to recognize critical and/or abnormal results relating to Microbiology.
