Assistant, Associate or Full Professor

Description The Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for one full-time, tenure-line Professor position that will begin on September 1, 2018. We are seeking a linguistic and/or sociocultural anthropologist who focuses on development, climate change and environment, and/or food security/sovereignty. Applicants should have a PhD or an anticipated PhD completion by August 2018 in Anthropology. Candidates should apply for either Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor rank. Depending on qualifications, the appointee to this position may be recommended for tenure at the time of hiring. We welcome applications from candidates who are committed to public engagement, the use of substantive social theory, and the application of rigorous qualitative and/or quantitative research methods in their research and scholarship. The successful candidate’s research will focus broadly on processes of development, climate and environmental change, and/or food security, sustainability, and sovereignty among communities and other social groups.
