What’s the role?: As a Lead AI Engineer in the GBU CIO team, you’ll uplift AI engineering capability and lead delivery of enterprise-grade AI and GenAI solutions on Westpac’s strategic data platforms. You’ll set technical direction, engineering standards, and coaching so AI is applied safely and effectively across the SDLC for data products. You’ll design and build production-ready agentic and GenAI applications that integrate with our modern cloud data ecosystem—selecting fit-for-purpose patterns (e.g., RAG, tool use, guardrails) and meeting enterprise requirements for security, privacy, reliability, scalability, and cost. Working across squads, you’ll partner with data and platform engineering, product, and risk/governance teams to embed AI into core data products and ways of working. You’ll drive reuse through shared libraries and templates and improve delivery efficiency with AI-assisted development practices.
