Job description

Summary: The Deputy Metro Editor works with the Executive Editor and other members of the senior leadership team to develop a strategy that ensures the NY Daily News is meeting the needs of its audience. This is a hands-on, high-demand job with a wide range of responsibilities including, but not limited to, managing assigned staffers, directing and editing content, and coordinating with digital and print production teams. The Deputy Metro Editor, who may work days or nights, must keep a close eye on the competition to make sure the Daily News is tracking ahead of other news outlets in key content areas on an hour-to-hour basis and closely follow reader metrics to assure we are meeting audience demands. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Deputy Metro Editor must have the requisite experience to fill in for the Executive Editor when needed, making major news decisions, decisions on anonymous sources, and other calls usually left to the Editor.
