Benefits Eligible Overview The Department of Humanities draws on the expertise and commitment of it research-active faculty to provide excellent undergraduate educational experiences to majors, minors and the broader university. The unifying theme of the department is the study of societies, past and present, framed within the tradition of the liberal arts. Within Sociology, faculty have research and teaching foci on social inequality (especially race and gender), criminology, family, and social psychology. Our curriculum emphasizes disciplinary knowledge (including methods and substantive content) as well as skills including critical thinking, critical and active reading, research, analysis, synthesis, written and oral communication, and ethical judgment.
