Job description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (The following statements are intended as general illustrations of the work in this job class and are not all-inclusive for this position.) - Controls all valves for the proper flow of water into and through the treatment process. - Monitors and controls the appropriate application of all chemicals to the water during the treatment process. - Performs a variety of chemical/laboratory tests of water at prescribed intervals to determine chlorine residual, turbidity, alkalinity, and temperature levels. - Monitors and interprets chemical test data, plant machinery and water in process to track plant operations and to make necessary adjustments. - Operates filter units and backwashes at prescribed intervals or when necessary; super chlorinates filters when put into service and keeps records of filter maintenance and problems. - Performs minor maintenance and emergency repairs to water treatment machinery. - Maintains records of treatment operations. - Starts pumps or machines that malfunction; assists with minor or routine machinery maintenance and makes the necessary emergency repairs; performs a regular schedule of preventive maintenance; maintains clean buildings...
