Detention Officer

Job description

Purposes: To create an eligibility list for the position of Detention Officer. Position Summary: Processes individuals into the Independence Police Detention facility. Responsible for intake of personal belongings; booking; fingerprinting and searching detainees/prisoners; completes medical questionnaires. Monitor the detention area to provide safety and security for arrestees. Coordinates the bonding and/or arraignment of detainees with Municipal/ State/ Federal Court; provides courts with proper documentation. Arranges meals and makes provisions for personal needs of prisoners. Maintains the detention facility; cleans cells; laundry; and supplies. Perform data entry of required records and reports. Inform the Detective Unit of felony arrests and arraignments and other duties as directed. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED, or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
