POSITION OVERVIEW: The certified pharmacy technician assists the pharmacist in providing medications and other healthcare products to patients. The pharmacy technician measures, mixes, counts out, labels, dispenses, and records dosages of medications, makes IVs, and receives and verifies prescriptions. The job involves purchasing, inventory, record keeping and use of databases and medical software. Pharm techs also deliver medications and pharmaceutical supplies to patients, nursing stations or surgery and maintain proper drug storage and security. A pharmacy technician needs good customer service skills and knowledge of both drug properties/interactions and preventative health-care measures.
