Job description

Van Andel Institute (VAI), a world-class biomedical research institute, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is dedicated to improving human health. We are pioneers in the fight against cancer, Parkinson's, and other diseases. We are committed to inspiring the next generation of scientists and educators. A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Maulik Patel in the Department of Metabolism and Nutritional Programming at the Van Andel Institute (VAI). The Patel Lab studies fundamental aspects of mitochondrial biology using Caenorhabditis elegans as a model system. Our research focuses on understanding mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) biology, including mechanisms regulating mtDNA copy number, maintenance, and inheritance. The postdoctoral researcher will investigate key questions in mitochondrial genome regulation and function. Projects in the lab combine genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, and imaging approaches in C. elegans to uncover how mtDNA copy number is controlled and how mitochondrial function is maintained across development and physiological states. In particular, there is strong interest in reconstituting aspects of mtDNA regulation in vitro using puri...
