Minimum Pay Rate: $130,603.20 Maximum Pay Rate: $173,035.20: Civil Service Status: Civil Service: Apply by Date: 04/06/2026: Purpose: Performs engineering, technical, and analytical functions in the field of protective relaying and faulted power systems evaluation to ensure the design, installation, operation and maintenance of a dependable, secure, cost-effective protection and control system for SMUD’s transmission and generation facilities. Nature and Scope: This classification is comprised of two levels: "E" is the entry, "J" is the journey. This journey-level Protection Engineer is distinguished from the entry by the assignment of the full range of duties. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new, unusual or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit.
