Base Pay: $26.17 Hourly . SUMMARY: The Assistant Foreman is responsible for the day-to-day operations and flow of work in the Central Garage of the Public Works Department, which is responsible for maintenance of all vehicles and heavy and light equipment used in the building and maintenance of county roads and bridges. The employee is required to be on duty before, during, and after natural disasters and emergencies, as directed by the supervisor. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Oversees shop operations by making work assignments for all shop personnel. Determines work priorities and assigns appropriate personnel to tasks. Oversees employee schedules and approves leave requests. Enforces work standards, technical and mechanical requirements, and work rules. Utilizes progressive discipline measures when necessary. Orients new shop employees and recommends appropriate training for them. Acts as a resource to shop staff and may perform some repairs themselves. In the absence of the Foreman, the Assistant Foreman may purchase parts, supplies, and equipment in accordance with County rules and state law.
