Job description

Overview The Department of Buildings and General Services (BGS) is seeking a skilled and dependable Maintenance Mechanic to join our team in Waterbury. This role is essential in keeping our facilities safe, functional, and welcoming for staff and the public. The Maintenance Mechanic will perform routine inspections to catch issues early, carry out preventive maintenance, and complete general building repairs. The position will also support seasonal tasks like snow removal, groundskeeping, and graffiti removal to keep our sites in top shape. Duties include: The ideal candidate will be a strong problem-solver with the ability to troubleshoot effectively, communicate clearly when collaborating with team members or reporting issues, and bring technical knowledge of electrical, plumbing, general building maintenance, and the safe use of tools and equipment. This position will work Monday through Friday, 7am to 3:30pm, with some overtime expected. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a criminal background check are required.
