Job description

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Maine invites applications for an ongoing teaching position at the rank of Lecturer, with an anticipated start date of either July 15 or September 1, 2026. During the 9-month academic year, lecturers normally teach three classes per semester. This extended position also includes 1.5 months of mathematics instruction (July 15 – August 31) to incoming first-year engineering (and potentially other) majors, enabling more of them to start further ahead in the calculus sequence in the fall semester. This summer component of the position is in place for three years initially, after which it is contingent on success of the initiative and availability of funding. This position is ongoing as an academic-year position, contingent upon satisfactory performance. Lecturers at the University of Maine have a promotion track and "just cause" protection after 6 years of service. The successful candidate will have the option to join the faculty union and will benefit from collective bargaining.
