In the US, there are around 1.6 million people who have a diabetic foot infection, with a 5.6 times higher chance of requiring an amputation. Studies further indicate that following a major amputation 50% of amputees will only survive for a further 2 years. As part of its ongoing investment into R & D, Biocomposites has commenced a phase III clinical study for a new drug that will transform the way healthcare professionals treat diabetic foot osteomyelitis. A team is being assembled to prepare for the launch of this new drug (followed by additional new drugs) into the US healthcare market.
