Ontario Bureau Chief Location: Toronto: Description of Role: We’re looking for an energetic leader with rock-solid news judgment and a knack for generating original ideas to oversee the Ontario bureau of The Canadian Press. The successful candidate will be an experienced supervisor who has a hunger for breaking news and is able to mentor and inspire staff to unearth scoops and set the agenda. This manager will oversee a group of reporters in CP’s Toronto head office and our Queen’s Park correspondents. Responsibilities: - Working closely with the Ontario news editor, oversees coverage of the news report in Ontario for CP’s digital, print, video and broadcast services. - Supervises and schedules staff at Toronto head office and at Queen’s Park. - Liaises with other CP bureaus and the Managing Editor to help co-ordinate coverage. - Assigns and edits stories. - Ensures staff are generating ideas for stories on a daily basis, as well as for mid- and long-term projects. - Liaises with CP media clients. - Works closely with CP’s Sales and Marketing team on client relations. - Mentors, coaches and manages team performance by establishing specific goals and objectives.
