Internal Structures (FWD) Engineers are responsible for detail design, analysis and requirements of all internal structures for the COLUMBIA Class submarine, the nation’s #1 defense program. Submarine internal structures include equipment foundations, platform decks, modular structures, joinerwork, bulkheads, tank structures and structural penetrations. Responsibilities include: Working with designers and draftsmen to design, analyze and produce technical disclosures for use in submarine construction. It is the engineer’s responsibility to ensure all technical requirements are met and represented on the technical disclosure.Performing engineering calculations which may include shock loading analysis, operational and live loading analysis, stiffness analysis, fatigue evaluation and tank pressurization analysis.
