Work for the IMF. Work for the World. The International Monetary Fund’s Statistics Department (STA) provides global leadership on macroeconomic and financial statistics. Our analytical, policy, and operations work advances the international statistical agenda and contributes to carrying out the IMF’s mandate and core functions through: (i) multilateral, bilateral, and financial sector surveillance and use of Fund resources; (ii) analytical development, drafting, and promotion of internationally accepted statistical standards and methodologies; and (iii) capacity building activities. STA’s Government Finance Division in (STAGO) spearheads international initiatives on government finance and public sector debt statistics (GFS and PSDS), fosters related analytical work and plays a lead role in the Fund’s collaboration with other international organizations involved in those statistics, including the World Bank. Together with other STA divisions, STAGO plays an important role in the implementation of a data strategy that aims to provide high-quality, timely, and comprehensive fiscal data in support of the Fund’s surveillance and lending activities.
