DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: SUPERVISION: Reports directly to the Assistant Director of Pathology - The General Lab Phlebotomist collects clinical laboratory samples to be tested in the clinical laboratory. The General Lab Phlebotomist will collect blood samples through the use of skin puncture and venipuncture techniques, urine samples, and other specialty collections. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: - Use and maintain Mobile devices and Spectralink phones according to policy. - Utilizes departmental communication platforms. - Meets blood culture contamination rate of < 1.0%, if applicable campus/area. Utilize blood diversion devices. - Meets rejected specimen rate of < 2%, if applicable campus/area. - Utilizes proper hand washing. - Assists clerks with receiving specimens, answering the phone and other duties when available. - Meets established turnaround times for STAT, In AM, Timed, and routine orders. - Practice methods of preventing infection during venipuncture/skin puncture. - Utilizes laboratory computer system, collection lists, kiosk system, and pending logs. - Ensure proper collection for specimen integrity. - Recognizes anatomic regions and components of the circulatory syste...
