Driven by incoming solar energy, climate is the result of interactions between the atmosphere, oceans, ice sheets, land surfaces and the biological environment. Climate change and its variability through time is examined, with emphasis given to the rapid changes occurring at present day and the issues associated with them. By the end of the course, students will have a better understanding of each component of the climate system and its interactions with the others, and how these combine to define the climate as we know it.
