Operations research provides a rational approach to engineering and managerial problem solving through deliberate application of scientific methods. The function of the optimization engineer at chevron is to guide decision making by decomposing business problems into mathematical frameworks, developing and proposing courses of action, establishing appropriate metrics and objectives to optimize, and evaluating total system effects.
