Overview Build, maintain, repair, and inspect freight cars by performing the following duties. Extra Board Shift: Initial pay between $27.04/hr - $30.42/hr based off experience. Salary will increase to $33.80/hr once qualified (typically takes 6 months to a year) Responsibilities: - Build, maintain, dismantle, paint and inspect all freight cars, both wood and steel. - Inspect and measure parts to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems. - Pipe and inspection work in connection with air brake equipment on cars. - Inspecting, Testing and Repairing air brakes and freight car parts. - Operating punches and shears. - Painting, surfacing, lettering, cutting stencils, and removing paint. - Performs car inspections. - Performs oxy acetylene cutting and electric welding. - Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment. - Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine. - Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
