Job Description The Role: General Motors is seeking a highly experienced Linux System Engineer to join our Software and Services organization. This role is critical to supporting our core development teams and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Ubuntu Linux systems, virtualization technologies, and enterprise-scale desktop environments. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Ubuntu-based systems across both physical and virtual platforms, ensuring high availability, performance, and security for our engineering teams. Additionally, System Engineers are responsible for partitioning and allocating product, feature and system functionality to implementation teams. Safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance are factors considered in system design with the goal of optimizing performance, design, testability, and deployability. System engineers identify use cases, define functional technical requirements, enable robust implementation designs, and ensure built-in quality with test definition and traceability.
