Description The Department of Africana Studies invites applications for a visiting assistant professor of Africana Studies to begin in August 2021. Qualifications: We seek a candidate with strong general background in Africana Studies and a specialty area in one (ideally two) of the following: critical race theory, Black queer theory, Africana religions, Black social and political movements, Africana musicology, Africana popular culture, transnational Black feminisms, or race and healthcare disparities. The teaching load includes advising senior Independent Study thesis projects and teaching Introduction to Africana Studies, an interdisciplinary course focused on the historical and contemporary experiences of African and African-descended people, and upper-level courses in Africana Studies. A Ph.D. in Africana Studies, Black Studies, or a related field is preferred, although applicants who hold a degree in another field with a graduate certificate or significant interdisciplinary training in Africana Studies are welcome to apply.
