Aquaculture Internship - Northport, NY

Job description

In partnership with the Village of Northport, Cornell Cooperative Extension is proud to continue with our shellfish grow-out program where oyster will be raised to enhance water quality and the natural oyster population. As an added educational component, high school and/or college students have the opportunity to partake in a paid internship. The program will allow students to learn about shellfish aquaculture techniques including grow-out procedures, measuring and growth and survival rates, and monitoring environmental parameters such as water temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen. The paid internship will be offered from July 1st through August 28th. The positions are part-time 12-20 hours per week. During the start of the season, it is possible that training will occur at Goldstar Battalion Beach in Huntington and at times interns may be required prior to the start of the position. Depending on timing, this orientation may be virtual or held at the Riverhead or Huntington office. Major Duties of Position: 1.
