Staff Position Description Position Title: Phlebotomist Position Code: Phleb-6120 Department: Laboratory Safety Sensitive: YES: Reports to: Director/Manager/Supervisor Exempt Status: NO Position Purpose: All KHI employees are expected to perform their respective tasks and duties in such a way that supports KHI’s vision to be among the kindest, highest, quality health systems in the country. A phlebotomist is expected to have a well-rounded skill set of venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all demographic types while adhering to the order of draw and ensuring proper patient identification. A phlebotomist will ensure that each patient order is collected using proper technique including positive patient identification, AIDET, sterile technique, anxiety reducers, and excellent customer service. Minimizing recollects due to QNS, hemolysis, mislabeling, or improper tube collect is our common goal. A blood culture contamination rate of less than the standard is expected. Providing the medical technologist with quality specimens free of contamination is the primary goal.
