The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg is the largest solar research institute in Europe. Our approximately 1300 employees work towards a sustainable, economical, safe and socially just energy supply system based on renewable energies. We contribute to this with our research focus on energy supply, energy distribution, energy storage and energy use. Through outstanding research results, successful industrial projects, company spin-offs and global cooperation, we are shaping the sustainable transformation of the energy system. Be part of change: In the „Cognitive Buildings” group, we work on digitizing building data and making it usable for automated applications and optimizations. To this end, we have developed a web app that uses an AI-based pipeline (computer vision, LLMs) to convert images of schematics of technical building systems into digital models. The results can then be visualized, further edited, and exported. In the background, the digitized system models are represented as a knowledge graph based on Semantic Web ontologies, making them usable for further processes.
