Job Description Background on NYCEM: New York City Emergency Management (NYCEM) is a coordinating agency for the City of New York. The agency plans and prepares for emergencies, educates the public about preparedness, coordinates emergency response and recovery, and collects and disseminates emergency information. The agency maintains a disciplined unit of emergency management personnel including but not limited to attorneys, responders, planners, watch commanders, logisticians, community outreach, communications, administrative and support staff to identify and respond to various hazards. The Response Bureau is responsible for monitoring incidents throughout the City, alert the public and City agencies, initiate NYCEM response, on-scene coordination and special event planning and coordination. It is comprised of Watch Command, Field Response Unit, and the Response Support Unit, which includes the Special Events team. The mission of the Response Support Unit and the Special Events Team is to ensure the safety and success of special events throughout the city and supporting other aspects of NYCEM’s response operations.
