IFPRI is seeking a firm/organization/individual consultant for conducting qualitative fieldwork, including Key Informant Interviews (KII) and Gendered Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) on access to, use of and financing of Small-Scale Irrigation Technology in Kenya. This consultancy is for applicants based in Kenya only. Background: Despite the substantial potential to expand small-scale irrigation (SSI) in Kenya, adoption remains far below what is needed to stabilize food production under accelerating climate stress. Smallholder farmers—especially women—face a wide range of barriers that limit their ability to benefit from this proven climate smart practice. Women farmers, in particular, find the high upfront equipment costs prohibitive, compounded by inadequate access to affordable and appropriately tailored financing. These constraints are compounded by information gaps, including limited knowledge about technology options, operation and maintenance, as well as structural challenges, such as differences in land and other assets and mobility.
