Job Summary Reporting to the Associate Director- Architectural Trades & Auto Services, the Automotive/Equipment Mechanic is assigned to the Auto Shop within the Maintenance & Operations unit of the Facilities Development & Operations and works independently or as a team member under the general supervision of the Auto Shop Supervisor. The Automotive/Equipment Mechanic performs the full range of skilled journey-level automotive/heavy equipment mechanical work in the overhaul, repair, maintenance, service and adjustment of automotive, heavy maintenance, heavy construction, and other specialty equipment and engines. Incumbents typically inspect, perform diagnostic tests, determine necessary corrective action, and make minor-to-major repairs to automobiles and similar vehicles and/or maintenance and construction equipment including performance of smog and other regulatory or manufacturer recommended tests. The incumbent uses a computerized maintenance systems to ensure the preventive maintenance program objectives are met and conducts vehicle inspections and maintains records; and may serve as a campus vehicle inspector.
