About the unit 5 East is a surgical critical care unit that specializes in the care of patients with life-threatening neurological diagnoses and/or trauma related injuries that require surgical intervention. The unit staff is comprised of RNs, nurse technicians, critical care technicians, and clinical assistants and is led by an Administrative Clinical Manager, an Associate Clinical Manager on the off-shift, and a Nurse in Professional Development Specialist. The staff on 5 East are supported by surgical intensivists, neurosurgeons, and Advanced Practice Providers who provide 24/7 coverage.
