Position Summary Under the general supervision of the Nursing Manager, the Medical Assistant provides both clinical and administrative support within Student Health Services at San Diego State University. The position plays a key role in delivering high-quality, student-centered healthcare by assisting medical providers with routine clinical procedures, patient care activities, and health center operations. The Medical Assistant performs a broad range of clinical duties within scope of practice, including preparing patients for examinations, collecting and recording vital signs, administering medications and immunizations, performing basic diagnostic tests, and assisting practitioners during medical procedures. The role also includes maintaining exam rooms, handling medical equipment, and supporting infection control standards. In addition, the incumbent supports front-office and administrative functions such as patient check-in, appointment scheduling, maintaining electronic health records, coordinating patient flow, and ensuring compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
