Job description

Overview Provides genetic counseling to patients, specializing in Pediatrics. Specific duties include: - Prepare detailed patient family medical histories to analyze genetic information to identify a patient's risk for specific genetic disorders or syndromes - Explain risks and benefits of various diagnostic procedures, and facilitate a decision making process for patients - Discuss testing options and associated risks to assist patients in making informed medical decisions, and maintain communications with families through decision making and resolutions - Prepare detailed reports of patient sessions to provide information on complex genetic concepts to referring care providers - Interpret laboratory results to determine and coordinate patient treatment plans - Provide supportive, comprehensive, non-directive counseling - Provide results of normal tests to patients and notify primary care providers of abnormal results - Collect patient data and prepare clinical plans for patients scheduled for genetics counseling - Prepare three generation pedigrees (family history in teh assessment of risk for common disease), and anticipate patient's needs to obtain information for case manageme...
