Newport News, Virginia Overview: An Athletic Trainer is required to be flexible with daily scheduling and will be required to work primarily off-site for sporting event coverage. An athletic trainer is supervised by the Director of Sports Physical Therapy & Performance. The athletic trainer will be able to demonstrate an ability to perform the following functions regarding athletic injuries: prevention, assessment, treatment, (including first aide) and reconditioning as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers (BOC). The primary responsibilities of the athletic trainer are to educate the public on injury prevention, rehabilitation, wellness and other health-related issues; and to maintain the highest standards of care and integrity. The primary location of work will include school, or university treatment headquarters; or at practice or game sites. Outside of the primary duties, the athletic trainer may also provide assistance with Outpatient Physical Therapy and Sports Performance.
