Job Summary: The Patient Navigator-Cancer coordinates access of patients through the healthcare system from diagnosis or point of referral. Completes authorization and coordinates financial clearance. Collects needed patient information for appointments, treatments, procedures, and surgeries including diagnostic procedures, pathology reports, operative notes, radiation therapy and chemotherapy information. Functions as a liaison between patients, families, outpatient oncology clinics, primary care physicians, and other support services. Provides patient service excellence through timely, accurate, caring and supportive communications with the patient through all aspects of care. Demonstrates flexibility and willingly floats to other areas as assigned. Performs other duties as needed. Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum one year of experience in a medical office setting required. Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of medical terminology required. Knowledge of all medical insurances and how they are used in a hospital/clinical based facility required. Full knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT codes and how they are used in HMO authorizations required.
