Job description

Purpose/Description The Engineer - Entry Level can be assigned to one of the multiple offices within the Engineering Division and perform engineering duties in planning, designing, testing, and overseeing construction such as roads, bridges, pumphouses and stormwater systems. The Engineer - Entry Level, under the general direction of a higher-level engineer or higher technician, will perform various complex assignments related to the design, plan review, construction inspection, testing, traffic and permits of the Engineering Division projects and activities. Required Tasks: - Spatially visualize in three dimensions the proposed design plans to ensure constructability and avoid construction conflicts, such as underground storm sewers and utility lines. - Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety or sanitation standards. - Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, or material stress factors to determine design specifications. - Test soils or materials to determine the adequacy and strength of foundations, concrete, asphalt, or steel. - Participate in surveying to lay out installations or establish reference poin...
