Description The Department of Asian Studies at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor in the field of modern East Asian media, visual, and popular cultures to begin Fall 2026. Discipline is open, with particular interest in scholars working in any time period of the early modern through contemporary era, as well as scholarship bringing innovative interdisciplinary work that crosses regional borders and/or employs a comparativist lens. We seek research and teaching agendas grounded in at least one of the key regions of East Asia (China/Greater China; Korea; Japan). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to interdisciplinary programs in the College of Liberal Arts, such as the International Relations and Global Studies program, while working alongside Asian Studies faculty and graduate/undergraduate students whose research interests range from premodern to contemporary and from the humanities to the social sciences.
