Description Department Director – Responsibilities & Expectations Each Department Director is responsible to the Dean for providing overall stewardship within the department to advance the education, research and clinical missions. The Director is expected to serve as a role model for the department by demonstrating institutional citizenship through participation in leadership meetings and in committee activities of the department, the medical school, the University, and the profession at large. The Director is responsible for promoting a positive workplace environment that supports teamwork, respect and collegiality among all departmental faculty and staff. The Director sets the tone for the department and promotes the vision and mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine, as articulated by the Dean and health system leadership. The Director is expected to collaborate with appropriate administrative and clinical leadership to achieve departmental goals and articulate a vision for growth.
