Job Summary The Student Extern works under the direction of the department/unit leader. The Student Extern is part of an educational program that has partnered with Corewell Health. The Student Extern performs the essential duties within their type of position as outlined below. Essential Functions: Patient Care Support Roles duties may include: Providing care to the patient according to the plan of care, specific unit routines and hospital policy under the Direction of the Registered Nurse. This may include taking vitals, ambulation, or bathing. Documentation of care provided in the electronic medical record. Safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services. Performs general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the unit/department. May assist with cleaning or stocking patient rooms. Maintains current knowledge/certification, including BLS. Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety and specific job-related hazards.
