Job description

Job Summary: Under immediate supervision of the Manager for Grounds, the Groundsworker performs general gardening work and maintains the grounds in an assigned area of a campus. Responsibilities: - Under guidance of the lead groundsworker, performs a broad range of groundskeeping duties, including but not limited to, planting, cultivating, fertilizing, watering, and spraying ornamental plants, shrubs, hedges, trees, lawns and flowers. Mows and edges lawns. Rakes leaves, hoes weeds, and cleans trash from assigned areas including parking lots. Prepares and treats soils for planting. - Operate and maintain equipment and tools for grounds and pest control operations; operate all equipment properly, following proper procedures including safety precautions; service equipment accordingly. - Performs pruning, thinning and constructing supports for trees and shrubs. May occasionally assist a qualified specialist with tree trimming, or nursery functions. Proper techniques are used and proficiency is demonstrated for this task.
