Overview As a Registered Nurse on the Mother-Baby unit, the 67-bed unit, 30 beds of which are designated for the newborn. Mother-Baby unit- The unit provides nursing care to post-partum patients, newborns, ante-partum patients and women with gynecological conditions. Newborn babies who are stable and are not in critical care are admitted to the Regular and Transitional Care Nursery. The following medical diagnoses are common among those admitted: ¨ placenta previa ¨ pregnancy-induced hypertension ¨ gestational diabetes ¨ premature rupture of membrane ¨ preterm labor ¨ hyperemesis gravidarum ¨ normal vaginal delivery ¨ cesarean section ¨ non-infectious gynecological conditions The Maternity Staff Practice Mother- Baby Nursing and promote rooming- in; one nurse cares for both mother and baby.
