Job Description: The Boston Globe is hiring a politics and government reporter to join its powerhouse politics team, to cover Beacon Hill and City Hall, state politics, and Massachusetts’ most influential figures’ place on the wider national stage. The so-called “cradle of democracy,” Massachusetts is home to some of the weakest transparency laws in the country – which means we’re looking for a dogged, enterprising candidate with a passion for challenging the status quo and unearthing accountability stories that those in power work to keep hidden from view. The candidate must possess the ability to write accurately on deadline, translating the jargon-dense language of lawmaking, the speechifying of politicos, and the spin of operatives into clear copy that cuts through the noise, and tells the story with enthusiasm, authority and urgency. The role includes covering the most impactful news flowing from the State House and an array of political campaigns, from the 2026 gubernatorial race to contests for the US House and Senate.
