Description The Ophthalmic Medical Technician is responsible for collecting and recording ocular and systemic patient histories, visual acuities, BP, IOP, Auto refractions, Manifest Refractions, performing external examinations, and dry-eye testing, as well as disease specific extra testing. Ophthalmic Technicians may not diagnose or treat eye disorders and may not prescribe medications; they are not independent practitioners. They can provide diagnostic information and clinical data in the ophthalmic exam to the physician, who is treating patients, and may assist in surgery, patient education, and compliance with prescribed treatment. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: - Collecting and recording patient medical history - Instructing patients on post-operative care, medication use, contact lens care and exam expectations. - Performing visual acuity testing, auto and Manifest Refractions (measurements for the glasses prescription), tonometry (measuring eye pressure) (Goldmann required) - Measuring pupil size and reactivity using PERRLA - Testing elements of movement (eye muscle function) - Performing confrontational visual field testing, pachymetry (Corneal thickness measurem...
