Maintains responsibility for the preparation of the surgical suite, intraoperative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions throughout the surgical procedure. This position is responsible for maintaining knowledge of surgical procedures and implements policies of the hospital related to surgery. Works alongside the circulating Registered Nurse and under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate safe and effective care that maximizes patient safety. Essential Functions: •Provides sterile instruments and supplies throughout the surgical procedure •Performs appropriate surgical counts throughout the surgical procedure •Creates and maintains a sterile and safe environment •Prepares surgical cases with the necessary equipment, supplies, instruments, and medications/solutions for each procedure •Expedites procedure by anticipating the needs of the physician through proper selection of appropriate equipment, instruments, and supplies •Supports the operation of the unit by completing assigned tasks such as inventory, stocking, and c...
