Job Description This is the fiscal technician position for the Department of Economics. Fiscal duties involve maintaining financial records and processing transactions for a number of accounts, including operating, salary, overhead, startup and Virginia Tech Foundation accounts in addition to research grant funds. This means reconciling all accounts monthly in accordance with State and University guidelines and making certain that Department Management and Principal Investigators on grants get monthly updates of budget projections. This position is also responsible for all department purchases, verifying the accuracy of invoices and processing them for payment as well as preparing and entering wage payroll. This position is also responsible for travel arrangements for faculty and department visitors. In addition, the fiscal technician is responsible for maintaining inventory records for the departmental computers and equipment, including checking out computers to members of the department, maintaining inventory records and arranging for unneeded equipment to go to surplus property.
